The Drifting Drifted

It's about a friend, won't name names. She changed and we miss her, well to be honest I'm not sure whether I should use the past or present tense. This one was written a while back.

The drifting drifted

She was like a boat
We were the mooring
The tide tugged, nudged, and edged.
Knots and ropes loosened, slackened.

Ebbing with the flow
Bobbing with the persistent tide
The jetty could only do so much
It tried, tries. Hopes, hoped.

A paddle for the journey home
A little determination to catch the sails
Help it in courage it
The little boat upstream.

The rope shall be thrown to aid
The little boats return
Its return from the return to the earth
Fibres and timber groan in anticipation

The jetty isn’t going anywhere soon
Only time changes it, physical, habitual
As the waves had eroded at
At the little wooden boats dulling enamel

Until the awaited reunion so near, possible?
The mooring dreams away the seconds
Allowing other sunny days to come
To come and warm upon its resting feet.

The Olympic Torch xx
